Papal Liturgy by Committee
April 17, 2008
Today’s Papal Mass at the Nationals Ballpark in Washington was a bit (understatement) of a mishmash of multiculturalism. Yes, we are a nation of ethic diversity, but its all-inclusiveness in this Mass failed terribly. The choice of music was most certainly a committee’s attempt to “cover all bases” — pardon the baseball pun. Especially bad was the “Preparation of the Gifts” songs. Everybody mambo! Whose idea was the Andes flute? Oh no, Mass of Creation! I pushed the mute button as the “swing and sway in your pew” music began at communion.
None of this was in the official Missal released by the Vatican.
The “liturgy committee” strikes again. Read The Spirit of the Liturgy bois n gurls.
Excuse me, but this Father needs a time out. Catch you later. (BTW — You could see the Holy Father was very pleased with Domingo’s Panis Angelicus.)
